Project Engineer


FLSA Status: Exempt

Type: Regular, Full Time

Reports to: Project Manager

Position Summary

Provide day-to-day onsite assistance for all project engineering administration activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pre-Construction – Assist Project Manager and Superintendent in development and implementation of the following tools to be used during the course of the Project

  • Electronic filing system

  • Administrative tracking logs (Change Proposals, Change Orders, Submittals, RFI, Procurement, Buy-Out, Project contact list, etc.)

  • Construction Management Plan

  • Project schedule and site logistics plan (truck routes, street use needs, hoisting requirements, etc.)

  • Qualifications and Assumptions for Prime Contract

  • Set up of site in preparation for field activities (trailer / site office, temp services, fencing, etc.)

  • Subcontractor ‘bid packages’ for distribution (package to include draft Scope of Work and templates of various Subcontract Agreement documents)


  • Become familiar with all assigned project contract documents (including drawings, specifications, and Prime Contract requirements)

  • Take minutes during weekly OAC meetings, including preparation and review prior to distribution

  • Participate in pre-construction meetings with each Subcontractor to ensure complete understanding of scope of work, schedule, and field coordination

  • Participate in quality assurance planning and quality control monitoring during the course of construction

  • Assist Project Manager with Project administrative functions including, but not limited to –

  • Buy-out (including preparation of subcontract / purchase order documents, scopes of work, solicitation of final bids in preparation for award, award recommendations to Owner as may be required, and delivery of final documents to subcontractors / vendors)

  • Subcontractor change request review, approval, and document execution

  • Owner Change Proposal / Change Order / Construction Change Directive preparation, review, and execution

  • Monthly pay application preparation (including review / approval of subcontractor and vendor invoices, draft delivery for owner / bank inspector review, final execution and delivery by Accounting)

  • Insurance certificate procurement and tracking (including adherence to OCIP program requirements) in coordination with Accounting team compliance tracking

  • Requests for Information (RFI) development, review, delivery, and response distribution

  • Architects Supplemental Instructions (ASI) posting to as-builts, distribution to subcontractors, pricing compilation for CPR/OCO (if required)

  • Submittal / Shop Drawing receipt, review, delivery, and response distribution

  • Cost projection preparation with ongoing review and maintenance



  • Preparation and delivery of all Close-Out data required by the Contract documents (Warranty, O & M Manuals, As-Built drawings, permit and inspection data, etc.)

  • Assist Project Team in coordination and implementation of Construction Punch program

  • Assist Project Team in review of building in preparation for final acceptance

  • Other Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Understand and interpret design drawings, specifications and blueprints

  • Support overall safety mission and goals of the Company

  • Enforce contractual responsibilities and resolve conflicts

  • Participate in periodic Client interviews

  • Maintain key Subcontractor and Client relationships

  • Participate in new work acquisition through various marketing efforts (professional organizations, industry councils, etc.)


  • 2-3 years’ experience in Company product type (wood / metal stud framing, below-grade (earthwork / shoring / concrete), etc.)

  • Ability to manage time and project deliverables with precision, speed, and efficiency

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to make sound, informed decisions

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and integrity
